Need help choosing aftermarket motorcycle footpegs. What will fit the brackets?

Wednesday Jan 13, 2010

I have a 1982 Yamaha xj 550 Maxim. I am giving the bake a complete makeover, from a NOS fuel tank to new mirrors to component rebuilds, and pretty much going over everything.
I have stock foot pegs on there and they are awful. One of the rear pegs is broken. The grip on all of them looks every bit of 29 years old. And I have some really nice chrome handgrips and want something to kinda go with that.
I was looking at universal pegs and adapters… the only thing is, The front pegs are welded to the bracket and don’t know which rear pegs would fit. I was wondering if I pop the rivet on the adapter (It is a rivet type pin) will I be able to just pop a new one in there with a new peg or is it not that simple? Or what other models footpegs would work on this bike with little or no modification?

Chris:

Bike’s a little old. If Dennis Kirk doesn’t have anything, then try JCWhitney.
