MCN Roadtest: AC Schnitzer F800 GS

Tuesday Jan 20, 2009

German tuning company AC Schnitzer has developed an excellent reputation for producing some stunning aftermarket accessories for all manner of BMW motorcycles.

Most recently it has turned its attentions to that stunning workhorse the BMW F800GS. But rather than simply adding on choice bits and pieces, this time it has developed a complete new model: an G800GS supermoto.

Replacing the off-road biased skinny wheels with wide 17-inch wire-spoked wheels has allowed a greater choice of sports rubber to be used, and turned the F800GS into a razor sharp back roads scratcher while retaining the ABS system. Add on one of the company’s tried and trusted exhaust systems and race-spec air filter to up the rear wheel output, and bolt on a WP Suspension rear shock to run with WP modified front forks, and the end result is a bike even the Germans can have fun with.

But then it was wet on the road, greasy as buggery with patches of ice. I know this. As for the shock, yeah, it adjusts eye-to-eye via threaded adjuster.

Yeah… I’ve …
Yeah… I’ve covered close to 3000 road miles in the last 3 months. I’d call that enjoying the winter conditins. (Not enjoying the wash I have to give my bike every time I get home, gone through about £40 of bike cleaner o.o)

Btw BMW’s are not in my good books – nice bikes, but I wouldn’t buy one. If you have had experience in the wet, so then you should understand why he may not be riding this as aggressively as you might see fit!

The dude is …
The dude is probably being careful because it wasn’t his bike. I don’t know if I could ride in the Winter/wet conditions like you guys. Seems like everytime I try I get off or just about do. I can’t find anymore plastic for my Elefant 900ES.

You don’t know me …
You don’t know me or my riding experience. Your comments are just unfounded. I have ridden and raced at Donni, brands in the wet so why don”t you just drop the pointless comments. GO and join your BMW appreciation gang and leave us real bikers to enjoy the winter conditions.

Uhm… yeah. I’m …
Uhm… yeah. I’m guessing you haven’t ridden a motorcycle in very damp conditions. You have no idea of the surface, some roads are fine in the wet, others are like ice.

A quick google revealed the tyres on this bike to be Conti Race Attacks. These have a nude shoulder and getting onto them in weather like this would be moronic. Sorry that this is all so ‘idiotic’ to you.

for your …
for your information, it was not raining and the ground had only surface water will no water running of the road. Granted there was snow on the side of the road but none on the road. I resent the fact that you call me ignorant from somebody as arrogant as you.
This is a supermoto style bike and therefore suited to ‘road’ conditions. Don’t think just because we are on the internet yo can be an idiot like other people on youtube.
