Are new jackets really less padded? Are old jackets safer? Can I get more padding somehow?

Unfortunately, the "direction" the motorcycle apparel Industry is headed towards is more related to the bottom line, than rider protection. The Salesperson has NO IDEA what he’s talking about, other than what he’s told. TRUE motorcycle protective gear SHOULD be tested against SOME sort of "guideline". like helmets. Unfortunately, the USA does not have any protective standards for motorcyclist protection, other than for helmets.

ONLY EUROPE has a guideline for almost every piece of protective apparel for motorcycling, called CE ratings or "standards", these guidelines put such protective apparel through scientific testing. Cut, tear, seam burst, etc..

THE BEST solution for any motorcyclist is to wear "REAL" protective gear. Wearing Motorcycle Body Armor that is INDEPENDENT of the jacket is the safest option, WITHOUT QUESTION!

Jackets that have "mounted" armor suffer one draw-back. The armor MOVES with the jacket upon impact, thus moving the padding away from it’s proper location.

THE BEST armor is currently made by T-PRO but is expensive. I went for the next best thing, based on reviews and the cost. The Juggernaut made by Velocity Gear…

WHATEVER you do… DO YOUR RESEARCH!! That salesperson is the LAST person you should listen to…

Sorry Brad, I respectively disagree… Dainese is one of the most over-rated manufacturers on the planet. Recently RIDE Magazine did a review of Motorcycle gloves and the review incorporated scientific testing; cut, tear abrasion, etc. Dainese, with one of the most expensive gloves finished 7th in the review based on these "tests". NEVER assume price = quality or SAFETY!! Again, Do your research…

In this weeks tip Kyle Bradshaw of www.CruiserCustomizing.com walks us through some of the differences of traditional driving light bars and more non-conventional driving light options.

Traditional Driving Lightbars from Cobra, National Cycle, Custom World International, Show Chrome Accessories, and Kuryakyn have been the premier method of adding additional light to the front of a motorcycle.

IF not going with a traditional lightbar, riders were in the past were stuck piecing together their own lighting solutions with the use of individual bulbs, various clamps, and then the headache… wiring the lights to the motorcycle. This process can be quite tedious!

Today PiAA has come up with a great way to minimize this hassle with two universal mount complete kits which fit most any motorcycle. PIAA’s 1100X kit and 005 kits mount the same but their bulbs are different shapes and therefore cast a different array of light. The 1100X casts a more spread out light pattern great for illuminating the sides of roads creating a large lit space in front of and surrounding the the immediate viewing area. The PIAA 005 kit on the other hand has been designed for more focused long range pattern reaching light and visibility way out in front. This is great for long straight roads and higher speeds.

The features and benefits of fork or fender mounted lights are three fold. 1. The lights are aim-able independently up, down, left, right… the possibilities are endless. 2. These lights illuminate the area exactly where the wheel is turning. 3. Larger Footprint: By being mounted farther from the headlight your visible footprint wile increased for better visibility.

Suggestion: If you want a matching headlight, the PIAA Xtreme White Headlight bulbs in either H3, H4, or H7 not only finish out the look, but will provide significantly more light than any OEM headlight bulb.
