I know "Harley-Davidson" is copyrighted but what about just the bar/shield?

Could I use the bar/shield on merchandise?

If the bar/shield is recognizable as a ‘ Harley-Davidson’ emblem, you’ll have problems and likely get merchandise seized.. A bare outline or back ground ‘shield’ is a open for use Heraldry symbol like a circle or triangle- what you add to it willl determine trademark infringement possibility. A diagonal stripe from one upper corner to other lower corner-can’t remember which sides but thinker it goes down left- is called a bend/bar sinister and is sometimes seen on what is a noble family crest that may also appear without the bar. The bar indicates the ‘bastard’ side of family- a middle name of Fitzroi’ indicates a Roi/Royal bastard. .

Why is it Harley makes more money selling foreign fashion accessories than bikes?

Harley Davidson makes more money selling clothing, keychains and "officially licensed merchandise" than they do from selling bikes. Further, 99% of this merchandise is made in china, malaysia, and mexico. Even their bikes contain foreign parts from places like italy and china and are far less reliable or technologically advanced as other bikes. How am I, as a proud American, supposed to get excited about an "American" product, when it is far more inferior, way pricier, and less reliable than most other motorcycles out there and the company that builds it makes most of its money selling foreign fashion garbage? Doesn’t spending my hard earned money on something like this just make me stupid?

I am amused by people who want to "Buy American," but don’t understand why that means they will usually get an inferior product at a higher price. Everyone wants American workers to be paid more than everyone else in the world, but somehow think that won’t mean you have to pay more the stuff they make. Do you think those cheaper, more advanced bikes are made in union shops, with union benefits and retirement packages, or in factories that have to meet American standards for safety, pollution, etc.?
