no, my son is not a brat. in fact he has had several years of piano practice and the rason why he would like an electric one is so he can use it in conjuction with his mac. He is very focused. i’m just not sure if he is able to take it on by himself.

It’s probably not wise to ask Classical musicians about electric instruments. Unless you are ready for the answers they provide.

An electric cello in the hands of a learner is a poor substitution for an acoustic instrument. It may look cool, but it will not behave as a true cello does, it does not have the same physical shape and doesn’t provide the same feedback through the fingerboard and body that a cello does. It is a poor compromise of an instrument. Especially true of the low end 300-400 euro instruments.

That said, you boy is probably bratty enough that he’ll reject anything "old fashioned" and will give up on cello more quickly if he has to use an acoustic instrument. That said, any string teacher worth his salt would guide him in the same direction. You learn on the instrument, not on the approximation of an instrument.

… then again, perhaps it is wise to ask Classical musicians.
